Let’s talk about something that many breastfeeding parents experience but don’t often discuss:
Breastfeeding Aversion and Agitation (BAA).
This can be a very real feeling, especially during pregnancy, when your body and hormones are already working overtime. BAA often shows up as an overwhelming urge to push away or feel irritated by your breastfeeding toddler, even though you still want to nurture that bond.
If you're experiencing BAA, know that you're not alone, and it's okay to acknowledge these feelings. It doesn’t mean you love your little one any less—it’s your body’s natural response to all the changes happening during pregnancy. It’s important to listen to your needs during this time, set boundaries, and adjust as necessary.
Take breaks when you need to, try new nursing positions, or even consider gently weaning if that feels right for you and your child. Talk to your partner, family, or even a doula about what you’re going through, so they can support you and help manage expectations during this time. Your mental and emotional health are just as important as your toddler’s needs.
Every journey is unique, and whatever decision you make for you and your growing family is the right one
